Jet Car Price Guide: What Really Determines the Cost
Search "jet car price" and you will find numbers that are miles apart. That is not because sellers are hiding something: a jet car is a boat, and like any boat its price depends on what is under the bodywork, what engine is fitted, and what it costs to get it to your water. This guide explains what actually sets the price, which costs sit outside the boat itself, and how to get a quote you can compare line by line.
What is a jet car, and what are you paying for?
A jet car (also called a car boat or water car) is a powerboat with bodywork shaped like a sports car. At CarJetGo every model starts the way any boat starts: a hand-laid fiberglass hull, a marine drivetrain and hydraulic steering. The car styling is moulded into the structure above the waterline. The wheels are styling, not drivetrain: it is titled, registered and insured as a boat, not a road vehicle.
That matters for price. You are paying for a boat hull first and the styling second, so the same questions you would ask about any boat apply here.
The six factors that set a jet car's price
1. Hull size and seating
Longer, wider hulls need more material and more labour, and they carry more people. Our range runs from a compact two-to-three-seat hull to 5.5-metre models that seat four to five. Bigger is not automatically better: a lighter hull needs less horsepower to move properly, which also brings the engine cost down.
2. Boat only, or fully rigged
This is the single biggest swing in any jet car quote. Every CarJetGo hull ships with wheel steering, seats, windshield, floor and lighting from the factory. You can buy it boat only (bring your own outboard, or add power later) or turnkey, where we rig, wire and water-test an engine package before it ships. Turnkey costs more up front but arrives ready to use, under one warranty and one delivered price.
3. Drivetrain: outboard, inboard or jet drive
- Outboard – usually the most economical way to power a jet car, simple to service through the engine maker's dealer network.
- Inboard – keeps the transom clean and the silhouette uninterrupted, typically at a higher cost.
- Jet drive – no exposed propeller, shallow-water capability and the ability to pivot in its own length; useful for rental fleets that operate around swimmers.
4. Horsepower
Within the same hull, moving up the horsepower ladder raises the price in steps. Match the engine to how you will actually use the boat: relaxed cruising and photos on a lake need far less power than a hull going into daily rental service.
5. Model and shape
Some shapes are simply harder to mould and are built in smaller numbers. A highly sculpted signature hull will cost more than a car-bodied hull of similar length, even with the same engine.
6. Build quality: a real hull, or a shell on floats?
Two boats can look alike in photos and be very different underneath. Ask whether the bodywork is moulded into a planing hull or attached to a pontoon-style base, what the hull is made of, what the warranty covers, and whether you will see sea-trial footage of your boat before it ships.
Costs beyond the boat
A fair comparison includes everything you will pay to own and use the boat:
- Freight – jet cars travel by specialist trailer freight, so delivery cost depends on your ZIP code and whether you choose open or enclosed transport.
- State sales tax, title and registration – handled like any other boat in your state.
- Trailer – usually sold and titled separately.
- Insurance – quoted as boat insurance.
- Running costs – fuel, engine servicing, winterising and storage, plus a fresh-water rinse routine if you run in salt water.
New or used?
Used jet cars do come up for sale, but ask for the Hull Identification Number, the engine hours and service history, and a water test. Check whether any remaining hull or engine warranty transfers to you, and inspect the hull underneath the bodywork, not just the paint.
Buying for a rental business or resort
Resorts and watersports operators buy jet cars because customers want to ride and photograph them. If you are buying for commercial use, ask about fleet pricing, a spares package for the season, operator training and a commercial-use warranty, which is normally agreed separately from a private-owner warranty. See our fleet and dealer page for what we offer from three units.
How to get an accurate, itemised quote
The fastest way to a real number is to tell the seller exactly what you need. When you request a CarJetGo quote, include:
- The model you are interested in (or "not sure yet")
- Boat only, or the engine package you want
- Your preferred colour
- Your delivery ZIP code
- Private use or rental / commercial use
- Your timeline
We reply with the boat, engine and commissioning on one line and freight quoted separately, so you can see exactly what you are paying for. Read our shipping, warranty and deposit policy pages before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a jet car?
It depends mainly on the hull, whether you buy it boat only or with an engine package, and the drivetrain and horsepower you choose. Freight, tax, title and registration are added on top. The only reliable way to compare is an itemised quote for the exact configuration you want.
Can I buy a jet car in the United States?
Yes. CarJetGo is operated by a US company and delivers to the 48 contiguous states as standard; Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and export are quoted case by case.
Is a jet car street legal?
No. A CarJetGo jet car is a boat: it is titled, registered and insured as a boat and travels to the water on a trailer.
Do I need a boating license to drive one?
Boater education requirements are set by each state and vary by age and engine size. Check your state's rules through NASBLA and the U.S. Coast Guard's boating safety resources.
How long does delivery take?
Our current published lead time is about two weeks of build time at the factory and 10–14 weeks to delivery. Your quote confirms the window for your order.
